My family and I recently participated in a honey harvest event at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay, and it was an outstanding educational opportunity. We highly recommend this experience and are eagerly looking forward to returning. Following a morning filled with engaging activities and informative demonstrations about honey bees, we explored the Heritage Village at Big Creek. Cole had a great time pretending to be a teacher, a student, a storekeeper, and a lawyer as we wandered through the various buildings and homes on exhibit.
Highlights of our day at Heritage Village
He showed immense interest in the various items and household items in each house, as well as visiting the inside of a classroom. He enjoyed testing us with math and spelling queries using the small chalkboards despite having similar ones in our home classroom. He’s pretty humorous. During pretend play, he acted as a lawyer and put Troy on trial, finding him guilty on all counts. Haha. Then, my dad walked out with the gavel in his back pocket, and Cole continued to tease him about it. He jokingly told his grandpa that he was getting forgetful and almost accidentally took something from the place. Lol.
An artisan showed Troy, Cole, and my dad how to craft a whip dart. He then patiently guided them through the playing techniques and provided valuable tips for achieving maximum distance. Everyone took turns launching their whip darts into the sky to see whose soared the farthest. Cole’s dart flew the furthest, earning him the title of the most adorable participant.
Following some playtime, we strolled into the Greene General Store to browse through numerous antiques and vintage candies. Drawn to the nostalgia of old-fashioned games, both Cole and I purchased our own marble sets. We’re looking forward to playing with our new sets at home.
Before departing, we took the time to relax in the shade of a sizable tree. Cole had a great time swinging on the tire swing and having a blast.
