We did it again, we slipped out of town unnoticed by anyone other than our cat, Casper who was starving for attention we arrived back home. He even had a care taker, don’t feel too bad for kitty, he’s dramatic. Anyhow, we snuck up to the Upper Peninsula yet again, this time staying in Grand Marais at the Hilltop Cabins. It was a beautiful overlook and perfect for the minimal weekend getaway. We spent our days snorkeling under the shimmering waters scouring for Lake Superior Agates & Yooperlites, digging tunnels in the sand, and testing our balance walking across the largest drift wood. Our nights were spent strolling the beach, adding to a rock and drift wood village we found, and enjoying the cool breeze and camp fire smells on the deck overlooking the Lake.
This year we took a little time to stop into the shops, check out the Pickle Barrel House Museum, visit the Gitche Gumee Museum, play mailman at the Grand Marais Post Office, and dine at The Dunes Saloon Lake Superior Brewing Co. instead of just burying ourselves in sand.
Our second day at the beach we found a drift wood cabana and we were smitten with it, the perfect shelter from mid day sun, a nice spot to relax, and the perfect spot to lay out towels out over to keep them warm and free from sand.
Are you a busy traveler always needing to go and see everything or a relaxation or bust kind like ourselves?? Don’t let us fool you, we go see everything there is too, but our main focus this time of year is disconnecting from the digital world, Hello Wedding Season!! And making memories together as a family! Kids always remember experiences more than places and we are building Cole’s memory bank strong!!!
Head over to Day Two to see our second day amongst the drift wood beach, under the natural cabana. The scenery is to die for and the beach was relaxing. You’ll envision yourself there immediately. Check it out now, you won’t want to miss it.
